The Latest CW Star is Born

After months of auditions, Annaka Chesnutt, a 25 year-old and native Austinite, was named the latest CW Austin Star.

This is the sixth year that the CW Austin has staged a contest to find their new star, a one-year title that will make Annaka the CW’s go-to person to for coverage on everything Austin and Entertainment (including the enviable charge of covering major festivals like ACL and SXSW). She will also be attending several local and station-sponsored events throughout the year.

The competition began with an open call that allowed the CW to select four finalists. It was then up to viewers to choose the fifth finalist from a pool of 25 semi-finalists. Then, the final five completed several assignments that ranged from screen tests to interviews. Based on their performance, viewers voted online to select the new face of the CW. We got the chance to ask Annaka a few questions about her upcoming year with the CW and what she’s looking forward to the most.

What does it feel like after all these months of auditions to know you are the CW Austin Star?

It feels so surreal. I'm still pinching myself to make sure it really happened!

Why did you first decide to audition?

I've always loved the CW and the whole idea of the CW star since they first started the contests. My dream since I was little was to be an Entertainment TV host, so when the opportunity came around I knew I had to try.

What was the most challenging part of the audition process?

The most challenging part for me was the time restrictions or "take" restrictions. We had 20 min to complete the commercial for Austin B-Cycle and only 3 "takes" at making a standout 30 second commercial.

What element of being the new spokesperson for the CW are you looking forward to the most?

I am mostly looking forward to working with such an amazing group! There is so much I want to learn and I just feel like it's going to be a great year for the station and myself.

Which event are you the most excited to attend in your year as Austin's CW Star?

I am excited for it all! I can't put my finger on just one event because they are all so different and equally amazing--X Games, ACL, SXSW...who can pick just one?

Lastly, what's your favorite CW show?

Supernatural! It has been on my DVR list since I was in high school.
