NEST Modern Owners Dish on New SoCo Digs

A visit to the progressive yet iconic NEST Modern is more inspiring than ever.

For more than 11 years, NEST Modern has been as much a design resource as a beacon of style. Design savvy locals know a walk through NEST Modern usually means leaving with a must-have piece — and a head full of décor ideas. Co-owners (and best friends) John Allison and Douglas Galloway have built their companies reputation by carefully selecting products from the United States and Italy that meld mid-century style with an Italian modern aesthetic. The result is a beautifully curated showroom full of individual pieces that also work together to create a truly unique space.

NEST’s commitment to progressive yet iconic design is more clear than ever in their brand new showroom on South Congress, where beautiful soft white hanging lights hang over carefully designed scenes filled with sleek sofas and colorful chairs. At the new address, a sprawling multi-level showroom leads back to a bright backyard space where Allison and Galloway plan to host parties and community events. The modern concrete floors and sleek new windows give a nod to the Yamaha studio and garage that the space used to be.

There are hints of nature inside, too. “We love how every window you look out and no matter where you are, you get trees out of every window,” says Allison. “It’s a little oasis here in the city.”

A month into the store’s opening, Allison and Galloway are glad and grateful to see the old customers, and say they are excited to see new ones, too. “We’re finding out maybe we’ve done something right in the past 11 years,” Allison laughs to Galloway.

“It feels like a neighborhood over here, and we like that,” says Galloway, explaining that a lot of people are coming in who have never been to NEST before. “It’s funny being in the community for 11 years [and] you move less than two miles and people are like, ‘What is this?’ So that’s been kind of fun.”

Another fun thing? Unveiling new merchandise in the fresh space. “We held back a lot of stuff that’s new in production we’re bringing in, including three or four lines that we weren’t showing before,” explains Allison. Expect to see brand new pieces from lines like Antonella, Pianca, and Saba that have never been seen before at the shop. After a visit to the new South Congress shop, expect to leave NEST’s new South Congress locale with more ideas than ever.
